Repatriations, By the Numbers

Our dataset currently includes information on more than 860 repatriation cases involving nearly 1 million looted or stolen objects. Many of these records are incomplete and may contain errors or distortions, so the totals below are preliminary and subject to revision or correction. (See Methodology section, below.)

Even with those caveats, the data offer a more complete picture of repatriations – and the antiquities trafficking networks behind these returns – than has been previously available.
